Empowering Global Health
gHealth Research
gHealth Research is based in the School of Medicine in University College Dublin and Mzuzu in Northern Malawi. We have been working together since 2012 to improve health outcomes through research and education.
This work is focused in primary healthcare. Through research and education we work with institutions, and their health workers, to strengthen health systems particularly in the areas of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and childhood illness Our work is solution and impact focused.
In particular, we have worked with the Gorey Malawi Health Partnership in Ireland to drive this change.
Our Principles:
Everything we do is:
To benefit those in need of primary healthcare.
To work through partnership.
To aim for long-term sustainability.
To develop best solutions through research and evaluation.
Why Primary Healthcare (PHC)?
PHC is a whole-of-society approach to health. It aims at ensuring the highest possible level of health and well-being and it's equitable distribution in society.
The The World Health Organization (WHO) Declaration of Astana was signed by 147 countries in 2018. It states
“We are convinced that strengthening primary health care is the most inclusive, effective and efficient approach to enhance people’s physical and mental health, as well as social well-being, and that primary healthcare is a cornerstone of a sustainable health system.” It seeks to develop “Primary health care and health services that are high quality, safe, comprehensive, integrated, accessible, available and affordable for everyone and everywhere, provided with compassion, respect and dignity by health professionals who are well-trained, skilled, motivated and committed.”
